CALL FOR NOMINATIONS: FSA Vacancies

We are sending out a call to fill a number of vacant positions within the FSA. These include various positions on the executive committee, its steward network, the Job Classification Audit committee, and the Joint Occupational Health and Safety committee.

Details regarding each position, its roles and responsibilities, and how to submit a nomination are below.

Executive Officer Positions

All positions are for the remainder of a 2-year term ending May 31, 2021.

Steward Positions

Non-voting positions (1-year terms ending September 30, 2021)

  • 1 Faculty Steward – representing Faculty of Arts
  • 1 Faculty Steward – representing Access and Continuing Studies
  • 1 Faculty Steward – representing Faculty of Science
  • 1 Staff Steward – representing members at-large

Joint Committee Positions

Job Classification Audit Committee (JCAC)

  • 1 Staff position (3-year term)

The JCAC is a committee represented by employees from both the FSA and the employer, which classifies permanent staff positions (Type A).

The FSA encourages staff members from varying educational and employment backgrounds at UFV to submit a nomination. The committee could benefit from additional expertise in the areas of IT and aboriginal knowledge, though this is not a requirement.

The JCAC will convene meetings on Wednesdays of weeks two and four of the meeting schedule each month from 9:00 – 11:00 am. Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee (JOHSC)

  • *2 FSA members to represent the ABBOTSFORD committee (2-year terms)

*One of these positions must be filled by a member who’s primary place of work is the Clearbrook campus.

The Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee is the body mandated through the the Workers Compensation Act of BC where safety issues are discussed and resolved. Both the workers and the employer have equal responsibility on this committee.

Our responsibility as a membership is to ensure we play an active role in identifying situations that may be unhealthy or unsafe for workers, and advise on effective systems for responding to those situations. This is why having strong member participation on the Joint Occupational Health & Safety committee serves a very important role at UFV.

Nomination Instructions (Submissions & Deadlines)

Nominators MUST email admin@ufv-fsa.ca no later than 4 pm, Thursday, October 8, 2020. Late submissions will not be accepted.

Email MUST include:
* Nominator’s full name
* Nominee’s full name
* FSA position being nominated for
* Include the nominee on the email. Nominee MUST reply to admin@ufv-fsa.ca by the deadline to accept the nomination for it to be validated.

All nominees (including names of nominators) will be posted on the FSA website1 at the time they are received.

Candidate Statements

Nominees have the opportunity to provide a written statement prior to the election period. Statements must be emailed in PDF or MS Word format to admin@ufv-fsa.ca no later than 4 pm, Friday, October 9, 2020.

All statements will be posted on the FSA website1 together at 4 pm, Friday, October 9, 2020 and in the format they are received. Late submissions and/or changes will not be accepted.

Elections for Contested Positions

If necessary, an election for contested positions will take place by electronic ballot from October 10 – 14, 2020. Ballots will be emailed to valid members UFV email accounts.
