The Canadian Labour Congress Retirement Security Campaign

The CLC has recently initiated a cross-country campaign on behalf of the millions of Canadians who will have inadequate resources when they retire, unless changes are made. Canada’s retirement programs have many similarities to the US health care system. Some of the well known facts are that 75% of private sector workers have no pension. Many working people have lost much of their retirement savings in the economic downturn. CPP and OAS only replace about 25% of the average wage while 60% to 70% is required. Many working people do not earn enough to contribute to RRSP’s to make up the difference.

The CLC campaign is promoting a plan that includes phased in increases to the Canada Pension Plan to enable benefits to increase from 25% to 50% of average earnings. Details are available by clicking on the following link:
