FSA Committees

Executive
FSA business is conducted by a group of officers elected by the membership each spring following the Annual General Meeting. Most positions on the Executive committee carry a term of two years and positions are open to all FSA members. Click here to review the Descriptions and Duties of each position. The executive meets on a monthly basis and at other times throughout the year as needed. These meetings are open to all FSA members (with voice but no vote).

The following committees report to the Executive:

Finance & Administration
The Finance & Administration Committee, which meets monthly, oversees the spending of the organization, and brings detailed budgets for approval at the members’ Annual General Meeting.

Members of this committee are:

Table Officers
Table Officers meets to coordinate and communicate over the operations of the Association between meetings of the Executive Committee. The Table Officers may act on behalf of the Executive Committee in special or emergency matters when a meeting of the Executive Committee is not possible. Table Officers include:

Contract
The Contract Committee assists the bargaining vice president in preparing for bargaining on matters related to contract negotiations. Members of this committee ordinarily include:

Bargaining
The Bargaining Committee represents the Faculty & Staff Association during Collective Bargaining. This committee reports back to the Contract Committee and Executive Committee. Members of the Bargaining Committee for the next round of bargaining include:

Communications
The Communications Committee, which meets at least once every two months, oversees communications between the FSA executive and members, and advises the executive on issues related to communications. One of the main sources of communication to the members is the newsletter, Words & Vision, which is issued four times during the academic year, and the website. Constitution & Bylaws Review
The Constitution & Bylaws Review Committee is responsible to ensure that proposed changes to the Constitution and Bylaws are brought forward to the membership for ratification at the Annual General Meeting each spring. Members of this committee are appointed by the executive on an annual basis.

Social 
The Social Committee assists the Social Committee Chair in planning social events for FSA members. Members of this committee are:

Job Action
The Job Action Committee is responsible for developing communication strategies to engage members about potential job action during collective bargaining and planning logistics for strike activities. View the Job Action Committee terms of reference.

Joint Committees

The following committees are jointly run between UFV and the FSA:

Labour and Management
The Labour and Management committee, which meets monthly and is comprised of four members of the FSA executive and four members of the UFV administration, provides a venue for frank and open discussion between the union and management. The purpose is to foster communication, to address workplace issues which can be handled through informal discussion, and to refer issues to other appropriate bodies. Job Classification Audit Committee (JCAC)
The role of the JCAC is to classify permanent (Type A) staff positions. Classification is done using an approved 13 sub-factor rating plan which places positions on the staff pay scale based on factors such as education, experience, judgment, and complexity of work. The committee is represented by employees from both the FSA and management. More information can be found on the UFV website at http://www.ufv.ca/hr/staff/jcac/. FSA members on this committee are:

Joint Professional Development Committee (JPDC)
The JPDC committee consists of five FSA and five management members. It supports and allocates funding for a wide range of professional development activities for both faculty and staff, ranging from in-service PD and training to educational leaves and sabbaticals. Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee (JOHSC)
The OH&S committee develops, supports, and maintains health and safety programs, policies, and procedures at UFV in compliance with WorkSafe BC regulations. This committee plays a valuable role in increasing employee participation and awareness in health and safety programs. External Committees

The following Chairs of these committees at the local level also serve as UFV-FSA representatives at the Federation of Post Secondary Educators (FPSE) level committees. Learn more about the FSA's affiliation with FPSE.

Gender Equity Network
The Gender Equity committee assists in the planning of events which raise awareness about women’s issues on our campuses and in our community. The Chair of this FSA committee is Amber Gazso.

Human Rights & International Solidarity Committee (HRISC)
The Human Rights & International Solidarity committee assists in the planning of events which raise awareness of Human Rights issues on our campuses and in our community. There is currently no committee at the local level. The representative on the FPSE HRISC is Chelsea Klassen. 

Decolonization, Reconciliation, and Indigenization Standing Committee (DRISC)
The Decolonization, Reconciliation, and Indigenization Standing Committee assists in examining and reporting on issues affecting Indigenous Canadians. There is currently no committee at the local level. The representative on the FPSE DRISC is Alyson Gher-White.
